Let me start with FUCK YEAH!!!!! Alabama came out strong for Doug Jones, demonstrating love conquers hate. Now we can move on to more important things, like passing the #DreamAct, defeating the #TaxScam and preserving #NetNeutrality. Our work is far from over in 2017.
But that’s not to discourage you. I know this work feels endless and impossible at times. But that’s why it’s a PRACTICE. And cultivating that practice is what gives us the endurance to run the marathon that is transforming our country into one that works for everyone.
Transactional politics is not going to get us where we want to go. We need to transform our relationship with civic engagement. So that it’s not just a thing we do when there is an election or urgent threat. Rather, something we do everyday. Like meditating or eating healthy or going to work or taking care of our kids. How we show up as CTZNs — committed to the wellbeing of the whole — is a part of that lifestyle.
And when we integrate that practice and perspective into our everyday lives, then it becomes sustainable and authentic. And THAT is how we keep going. It’s how we are able to do hard things. It’s how we wake up to our role and responsibility in perpetuating systems of power so that we can make different choices to disrupt and dismantle them. And it’s how we reclaim collective care, not as something we seek from government or institutions, but as a culture of how we take care of each other.
That is the practice we have been exploring all year with #WELLREAD and will be going deeper on in our upcoming CTZN podcast (coming in January 2018).
We will get through this because we have each other. And because, as last night demonstrated, love always wins.
“The only way to gain power in a world that is moving too fast is to learn to slow down. And the only way to spread one’s influence wide to learn how to go deep. The world we want for ourselves and our children will not emerge from electronic speed but rather from a spiritual stillness that takes root in our souls. Then, and only then, will we create a world that reflects the heart instead of shattering it.” Amen, Marianne Willamson.
a podcast for truth seekers, bridge builders and emerging activists who understand that our liberation and wellbeing are bound.
We’ll hear from community leaders, spiritual activists and cultural creatives as we explore the practice of citizenship — and what it looks like every day, for everyday people to create a culture of wellbeing that works for everyone. You can help us make it possible by joining our Patreon community, a crowdfunding platform that supports creators and activists like us doing good things in the world.
