Holy speech. Did you feel it? I was energized and ready to rumble.

But I was not feeling called to campaign for Oprah 2020. I was feeling called to citizenship. Not the kind that requires documents or papers. Or the kind that comes about every four years. But an everyday practice of how we show up for the wellbeing of the whole.

One year ago today, Obama said this in his farewell address:

“Democracy can buckle when it gives into fear. Just as we must remain vigilant against external aggression, we must guard against the weakening of values that make us who we are.”

It’s up to us to create the true north for our politicians. Not the other way around. We need to articulate our values and vision for this country and both elect AND hold them accountable to those promises.

We should have learned by now that no one is going to save us but ourselves. We need everyone to be activists right now.

Alicia Garza asks “What do you think it takes to build a movement in the millions?”

Not Obama. Not Oprah.

It takes all of us.
